Ven. Lama Thubten Yeshe
He was born in Tibet in 1935. At the age of six, he entered the Sera Monastic University in Tibet, where he studied until 1959 due to the Chinese invasion of the country. In this regard, he referred: "In that year the Chinese kindly told us that it was time to leave Tibet and get to know the outside world." After continuing his studies in exile in India, Lama Thubten Yeshe had Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche as his main disciple, and in 1965 he had his first Western student: the Russian princess Zina Rachevsky.

In 1971, Lama Yeshe settles with Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche in Kopan (a village near Kathmandu in Nepal). In this place, both masters teach Buddhism and meditation to a growing number of Westerners. And since 1974, the lamas began to travel to spread the teachings of Buddhism in the West.

To share the invaluable Buddhist teachings, his Western students started groups and set up centers in their home countries. In 1975, Lama Yeshe created the FPMT to name and organize this network of centers and projects. Lama Yeshe was recognized for being a teacher of great charisma, admired for his erudition, simplicity and practicality, who traveled endlessly around the world giving teachings until his death in 1984.
